For most of my life I had never dreamed of staying at home. It was the exact opposite message that society had pounded into my head since early childhood, and, quite frankly, I never really questioned why it was a path that should never be considered.
One summer between college semesters, however, I found myself with no outside work to do for the first time in nearly ten years. I was already engaged at that point, and my husband to be and I had come to the conclusion that it would be best that I stayed at home for a while once we had children. Something possessed me to do a search for the typical 1950s housewife's cleaning schedule , and it didn't seem to difficult once you get past the number of steps there are, so I decided to give it a whirl.
This happened about a year before the 50s Housewife Challenge became a thing, so I had no idea what to expect, but the results were far better than I could've possibly imagined. I was happier, significantly less stressed out, more energetic in spite of being very busy, had better food, and my husband and I had much more quality time together.
That said, when I saw ladies taking up the 50s Housewife Challenge I was excited because I thought it would do many good to have a positive experience in the home. Unfortunately many were outraged off the bat because of the length of the list, and immediately stripped out many of the items on the list and stated that they would only be doing it for a few days. Needless to say, many declared the experiment a failure, and they went back to business as usual. I thought they were jumping gun since it takes a little while to fully realize the benefits of this type of schedule
At any rate, after having a few years experience, I thought I would start this blog to support the ladies currently involved in living a more domestic, feminine life, or those who are just starting out and/or curious.
